Prednisone.

Prednisone is sometimes prescribed for the treatment of patients with low levels of corticosteroids, or those with normal levels of this substance but diagnosed with certain types of arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus and conditions affecting your lungs, thyroid, stomach, intestines, skin, eyes, kidneys or blood. This drug can come in different forms and each one of them should be taken in the right way to make sure you benefit from your treatment as much as possible. Your doctor needs to know if you are taking any other medications that may interact with prednisone, such as anticoagulants, amiodarone, cyclosporine, sertraline, lovastatin, efavirenz, clarithromycin, HIV protease inhibitors, antifungals, medications for diabetes, aspirin, cimetidine, rifampin, rifabutin, phenytoin, diuretics, hormonal contraceptives, delavirdine, diltiazem, or any other ones. Prednisone can sometimes cause side effects, but they are not expected to be serious. The following ones are possible: weak muscles, extreme tiredness, thin, fragile skin, acne, slowed healing of cuts and bruises, decreased sexual desire, insomnia, heartburn, headache, dizziness, increased perspiration, extreme changes in mood, or increased hair growth.
